Julia and Lee’s bohemian wedding at The Barn at Shady Lane was a heartfelt celebration filled with love and intentionality. Originally from the Tuscaloosa area, the couple now calls South Carolina home, but their hearts were set on tying the knot back in Alabama, surrounded by their closest friends and family. With its rustic charm and warm ambiance, The Barn at Shady Lane provided the perfect setting for their dreamy, love-filled day. Here’s a look at their wedding planning process:
During our first meeting, Julia and Lee described their wedding with these words: Rustic, barn, wood, greenery, and forest. After peaking at Julia’s Pinterest board, I could tell she loved the rustic style, with a twist of Boho. I called her style Western Bohemian! I was excited to take her style and bring it life!
We started with the venue! As soon as she said the word “barn,” I knew exactly where we were heading first! The Barn at Shady Lane! Shady Lane is one of my favorite venues in Alabama because of their staff! Linda and Michael are so kind, warm and welcoming! They always have plenty of staff on hand the day of and their venue is always pristine! Since Julia and Lee live in SC, I actually did the venue tour for them, taking tons of pictures and videos, and asking any and all of the questions to make sure that they were making a well-informed decision. Once Julia and Lee saw the space, they said yes immediately.
Once we secured the venue, we started down the path of building their vendor team! Once Beauty by Bree, Kelly Doty Photography, Savoie Catering, Cakes by Elise, and DJ Mason were secured, we started on their design!
Julia envisioned a stunning color palette of earthy tones, dusty rose, and lush greenery, brought to life beautifully by Cymbidium Studios. The ceremony featured a simple yet elegant design with a floral-adorned cross, candle pods, and gold vases, while bohemian rugs lining the aisle added a unique touch. With 75-100 guests, we arranged the chairs to maximize the space’s intimacy. During cocktail hour, we transformed the ceremony area into a reception in under 15 minutes, using a mix of table shapes and rustic farmhouse tables without linens to enhance the boho charm.
The tables were set with these gorgeous floral arrangements in gold compotes, accompanied by gold candlesticks and greenery. For the round tables and highboys, we used these gorgeous tan suede velvet linens from Décor to Adore to bring some depth and warmth to the space. They were so buttery soft and the texture really brought out the western feel we were going for.
Every bit of the ceremony florals and candles were repurposed for the reception space! We used the vases and candles as centerpieces for the round tables and used the bridesmaid’s bouquets as centerpieces for the high boys. The Cross was moved to the corner of the reception space, to be used as a backdrop for pictures.
We incorporated little details to bring out the couple personality! My favorite detail of the wedding, was this cowboy hat used as the sign in for the wedding! This was a detail that came from the bride and groom and I think it made a perfect addition to the overall design.
Julia and Lee’s wedding was extremely laid back, fun and intimate! Here is what our bride had to say about her experience with Creating Moments:
“We are so glad we chose to have Stefany plan our wedding. She made it very simple, found us fabulous options and just made the whole experience an amazing and unforgettable one! She’s seriously the BEST!!!”
